Good morning, everyone! I decided to kick off the day with some network organization, so I sat down and drew up a network diagram of my home lab setup. 🖥️📡 I’ve been working with a mix of Kali, Ubuntu, and Red Hat machines, all connected through a subnet for some added segmentation and security. 🛡️ This diagram helps me better visualize how everything is laid out and how traffic flows within my network. It’s a great way to see how each machine is isolated and communicating with the rest of the setup. Taking a step back and looking at the big picture really helps in understanding the structure and making improvements for future projects. Feeling productive already! 🚀 How’s your morning going?

No kid is going to have access to the throughput to cause a DDOS without A) expensive cloud bills (which is traceable) or a botnet, both of which are unlikely. Edit: oh, their network infrastructure was poorly set up and not prepared. Surprise surprise. The fact that these guys don't understand what a DDOS is and are accusing someone of a cyber attack is insane. A stress test isn't a DDOS, which uses a huge range of IP addresses, not a small range like a stress test, which would be easier to thwart. It's not just about cyber security funding, they need to be hiring competent IT staff. Not to mention, things like this shouldn't get the law involved. Detention/suspension is all that is necessary in an environment that is supposed to give you the opportunity to learn and make mistakes. I was a hacker at 13. I never got caught, but if I did, it wouldn't have landed me in jail. Nowadays every school has their own cops, instead of just principals. It's absurd. We are a police state.

After having to shelve my pihole project and home server/vpn/cloud setup project for over 6 months...I'm back at it. Was easily able to get my pi5 upgraded after months of no use, on my new ISP, run pihole updates and upgrades, and set up new port forwarding. Figured out how to add many new blacklist domains and am now blocking adult sites, gambling sites, and malicious sites. Also figured out how to white-list things like auto-redirects from sites such as USPS from an email about shipping updates. Got PiVPN installed and set up, and this weekend will be about learning how to use it and Wireguard to make the personal VPN. Thinking of setting up a second one for a travel router got me thinking about just doing it through VPN. Next going to look into cloud solutions, so my wife no longer has to have me transfer photos off of her phone every week of our one year old. Those photos and vids arent going to back themselves up. 256GBs on a phone is NOT what it used to be anymore! As a side project, picked up a pwnagotchi and been learning more about handshakes and reading Wireshark data.

Let’s go!! Officially on my way to becoming an ISC2 Member. I’m excited to share that I’ve provisionally passed my CCSP certification 🎉 (Certified Cloud Security Professional) !!! This was one of those exams that I never truly felt ready for no matter the amount of preparation. All glory to god for providing me the ability to be successful and confident in the material required. My manager would ask.. hey how’s the studying going and I’m like yeah, I think it’s going good. I’m passing the practice test; so it got to the point where I was like let me take the test 😂. Throughout this process I learned a lot about myself and my skill set within the cloud security space. This certification has tremendously bolstered my confidence around the expertise that I already possessed and introduced new areas that I may not have focused on much in the past Legal/Framworks/SDLC/ for example - GDPR, DAST/SAST all the ISO’s there’s like so many lol differences between SOC types, the list goes on. I no longer feel the need to be validated on a continuous basis by external forces but have internalized my capabilities with this stamp of approval from ISC2. #Google #CloudSecurity #ISC2 #GoogleCloud

I refactored the header for my website this weekend. The new header is more responsive, providing an optimal viewing experience on both desktop and mobile screens. Check it out at www.juliodaniel.com. I also deployed the code for this website on AWS using a Linux AMI on EC2 and adding a VPC with public routes allowing Nginx to serve requests. Next steps are to point the cname records to the EC2 public IP. #react #webdevelopment #aws

"THERE'S ALWAYS ROOM FOR EXCELLENCE AND EXTRAORDINARY..." We must hold this truth close to our hearts as we wrap up 2024 and prepare to welcome 2025. Excellence is the watchword for this week... Excellence doesn't in any way mean perfection. It's an intentional mindset that includes a consistent and passionate strive to be better even in the smallest things we do, including the bigger tasks. Excellence is an active learning culture and growth, including giving your best and showing up consistently. Last week, I read about the lunch hour session with Sir Atedo N A Peterside, the founder of Stanbic IBTC from 'Business Leadership Insight and it left me all inspired; I will be sharing some parts of the session here with us this week. In your journey towards building a successful career, purposeful living, personal goals, or even relationships, let excellence guide you. Let's reflect on what we can improve, and celebrate our wins while we prepare for the greatness that awaits us. If there is anything you would want to start or improve on, feel free to share it in the comment section. You may get help or advice on how to improve on it. Wishing us all a beautiful week filled with love and celebration. Tech Talk Thursday (sorta...) I've had a lot of disconnects this week and some things definitely fell by the wayside in the process. This morning I wrote and passed my Palo Alto Certified Network Security Administrator (PCNSA) exam through PearsonVue. If you're anything like me, you are less than 100% confident about approaching an exam unless you are 110% prepared. I wasnt quite (110%) there this week. Despite putting a dedicated month intio working with the material, and coming fresh off success with another month on the PCCET track, I found the sheer volume of material to cover a FTE+ job. To anyone looking to challenge this cert I would suggest spending whatever time is necessary to master three concepts: 1) The interface structure 2) The config options available inside virtually every single submenu; and 3) The implications of actions like implementing features that can be called more by more than one method (DOS protection vs Zone Protection) Going out on a win is a great way to hit the Christmas break and to reset before beginning the PCNSE Engineering track. But the real success lays in persistent dedication to the craft. Cheers out to everyone else out there chewing on continued education.
